Routine lawn care follows the same order every visit: mow, edge, then blow clippings off walks and beds so nothing gets tracked into the house. The mowing height and frequency change through the year, since grass grows fast in spring and slows down hard once summer heat sets in.

Most lawn problems are cutting problems. Mowing too short scalps the lawn and exposes the soil to heat, which is especially rough on tall fescue, the cool season grass most Sacramento lawns are seeded with. Fescue that gets cut too low in July will brown out and struggle to recover until fall. Mowing wet grass mats clippings into clumps that smother the blades underneath, and skipping edging for a few cycles lets grass creep over walkways and beds until the whole yard looks unkept even if it was just mowed.

Ask what height they're cutting at and whether that changes with the season. Ask if clippings get bagged, blown into beds as mulch, or left to break down on the lawn, since each of those affects how the lawn looks and how much thatch builds up underneath it over time.

How it runs

  1. Mow Grass is cut to a height appropriate for the type of lawn and time of year.
  2. Edge Clean lines get cut along walkways, driveways, and bed borders.
  3. Blow and clean Clippings and debris are cleared from hard surfaces.
  4. Check and treat Weeds or bare patches are noted and treated as needed.
